Finance Manager

The role of Finance Manager is a vital position that carries a wide and developing brief and will report directly to the Group CEO.

Our client is a global enterprise developing new product systems and is driving growth of its core, existing, offerings. The Group looks set to see top line and bottom line growth through 2018/9 and beyond as it is going through a stage of expansion including acquiring a large site on a 2.5-acre plot to facilitate this expansion. .

The appointment of a Finance Manager is deemed crucial to assist in realising the Executive ambition.

The Finance Manager will:

– Be a qualified accountant with 7 – 10 years’ experience as an SME Finance leader
– Have a strong commercial outlook on business management and pursuit of opportunity
– Be IT proficient with thorough knowledge of Sage Line 50 and Excel
– Join the project team of Finance/IT/Operations to initially document existing procedures and working practices and work closely with the Group CEO
– Then work with that project team to identify change and development, scoping ongoing system and procedural enhancements and take financial leadership
– Review and define improvements to relevant and perceptive Executive reporting criteria
– Be proficient in implementing new working practices in a changing environment
– Have demonstrable prior experience of system upgrades, improvements and developments both financial and operational
– Ultimately become responsible for day to day management of the whole finance function to include not least, monthly management accounts reporting, stock counts, purchase ledger, VAT returns, bank reconciliation, petty cash, Sage payroll, margin analysis, currency risk management and US subsidiary monitoring
– Recruit and build a strong, efficient team to manage all day to day process

We are working with a top construction firm who work predominately in the residential sector, but this will also expand in to some commercial properties.

The projects will be a blend of new build and refurbishments ranging from £500K – £5m across London and the South East.

We are looking to recruit at Assistant or Intermediate level, but being a large organisation there is lots of room for growth and progression in the short and long term.

Responsibilities
*Ensure that HSE&Q standards, operating processes, company policies and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to at all times.
*Undertake and manage the coordination and final preparation of tender documentation.
*Liaise with the commercial and business development teams
*Develop awareness of clients’ processes and procedures for bid evaluation.
*Effectively plan tenders to ensure timely and accurate preparation of tender documentation.
*Understand local government needs and aspirations including best value and the audit commission/executive service inspection.
*Prepare tenders from architect’s drawings, specifications, bill of quantities, pre-priced schedule of rates supplied by the client, including detailing materials necessary for the contract to achieve specification.
*Identify project risks, develop and produce a risk register to assist in the decision making and cost management process to facilitate calculation of contingency amount.
*Understand business development and the bidding market place including competitor environment and market forces (regional variation).
*Compile and present statistical data for pricing/bid analysis, interpretation and explanation of data.
*Understand labour productivity measured as output per worker and output per labour hour.
*Ensures tender programmes and specific methods of construction are developed with the technical and operations teams.
*Manage tender process to seek and establish project prices from sub-contractors including terms for works to be carried out under the contract.
*Evaluate, engage and negotiate on price documents.

Skills and Qualifications
*Quantity surveying degree or equivalent.
*Good grounding/training from a recognised main contractor
*Minimum 3 years’ quantity surveyor or estimator experience is desirable.
*Track record of winning profitable work.
*Good understanding of business development and the bidding market place.
*Working knowledge of marketing and economic factors.
*Organisation and project management skills, able to prioritise.
*Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills.
*Proven track record in the development of cost models and predicted life cycle costs.
*Strong practical knowledge of construction work types and methods.
*Awareness of commercial aspects including standard forms of contracts, conflict management and dispute resolution.

A leading top 100 construction company are looking for an experienced and dedicated Contracts Manager to join their forward thinking team. This multi-disciplined construction company deliver building works ranging from new builds, refurbishments and regeneration projects. As a Contracts Manager, you will report into the Operations Manager and you will be responsible to ensure the effective management and delivery of multiple contracts to the highest of standards.

You will have a wide-ranging in-depth knowledge, experience and track record in successfully managing residential building contracts. These should have been met to a high standard of health and safety, environmental, time, quality and cost targets. You will ensure sufficient and suitably qualified staff, plants and materials are available and review and develop as necessary.

Role Duties:
· Ensure any contract is carried out in accordance with company systems, policy objectives (including company rules), statutory and contractual requirements
· Lead large high performing teams to ensure high standards of safety, excellent service delivery and beneficial financial outcomes
· Deliver multiple contracts across a variety of geographical locations
· Responsible for the design, quality management, resource planning, defects management and out of hours working, ensuring appropriate procedures and documentation are in place in line the Contract requirements.
· The competence, development and improvement of employees is achieved through effective management, reviews, identification and implementation of training
· Ensure works are planned, monitored, reviewed and reported on as directed and requirements are effectively communicated to the permanent contract personnel
· Contract financial administration and invoicing is processed in a timely and accurate manner
· The works are completed to the client’s satisfaction, are properly inspected and handed over
· Required construction, health and safety, admine and cost records are well established and maintained, and that these are accurate and comprehensive.
· Establish and maintain relationships with clients or their representatives for effective communication

Skills and Qualifications:
· Minimum relevant NVQ Level 6 qualification and/or relevant membership of professional body (MCIOB/MICE) and /or construction related degree
· SMSTS certificate desirable
· Experience and knowledge of Quality Management systems and processes
· Knowledge of document management system
· Proficient user Microsoft Office programmes; incl. Excel, Word, Outlook
· Appropriate CSCS card
· Valid driving licence

Role Duties:
*You will accountable for all daily operational activity and the management of operatives and sub-contractors ensuring adherence to all company policies, procedures and practices.
*Providing cost effective resource allocation and management of sub-contractors, consultants, staff, plant and materials.
*A proven track record of delivering large, high quality residential projects.
*Review and coordinate contract drawings and specifications for all work sections.
*Ensure the schedule of works and drawings align with the construction detail and method understood
*Demonstrate a strong Customer focus and an ability to deliver initiatives within the local community and to support the Company’s corporate social responsibility.
*Identify and requisition site equipment / plant and materials to ensure completion of works. Ensure all operatives and sub-contractors are suitably trained to use any relevant plant and equipment. * Chair and attend weekly sub-contractor progress and plan meetings and record minutes.

As their Assistant Quantity Surveyor who will report to and assist the Estimators and Senior Quantity Surveyors within the South-East. The successful applicant will provide commercial expertise by working within stringent procedures to support the director and operational managers.

Key Responsibilities:
*Liaise with the site teams and take the lead with contract administration, including record keeping.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
*Qualified or working towards a HND/HNC or similar in Quantity Surveying or equivalent

An in-house training programme on brand ethos, products, policies and procedures will be undertaken as the company wishes to fast-track the position to one of independent responsibility. In short, the position is to ensure smooth running of jobs such that end client, contractor and specifier are pleased and wish to work on more projects.

Key duties

* to apply the highest standards of timeliness, courtesy and professionalism in all site liaison, conversation and correspondence
* to visit sites to meet the contractor, architect, designer or end client with a view to ensuring that all parties are ready to commence work.
* to liaise with contracts administration in respect of labour, plant, materials, consumables, PPE and all site-specific Health and Safety
* to visit allocated sites during phase(s) of work to ensure that the service standard is outstanding
* to attend allocated sites once works are finished with a view to inspection, agreeing and effecting snagging and getting works signed off and handed over with an agreed measure for subsequent invoicing
* to ensure the correct behaviour from the suppliers and staff engaged on sites and to report to the Contracts Director and Contracts Manager any issues of service concern by any CIS supplier or PAYE staff
* to liaise with contracts drivers and contracts administration regarding any site needs such as urgent additional materials supply and clearance of sites
* to promote company policy that all stock, plant, tools and consumables belonging to the Company are brought back to its Distribution Centre
* to identify and immediately record and communicate any problems on site.
* to set a brand example regarding the wearing of site clothing and correct PPE, with manners, timeliness and tidiness
* to attend contracts meetings as instructed
* to perform any other reasonable and related duties as requested from time to time to assist in delivering the brand standards and the Group’s aspired growth Experience

The candidate must:

* have at least several years experience in the contracting industry having worked for a trade subcontractor as a contracts supervisor, project manager or contracts manager
* have demonstrable and referenced experience with on-site accountability for installation standards and overall customer service to end client, the specifier and contractor
* have been educated to ‘A’ level, HND or completed a related recognised relevant apprenticeship * demonstrate previous attendance at and certification for industry-specific related training courses for example: the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) the Site Management Safety Training Scheme other industry Health and Safety training
* demonstrate labour and time management skills
* demonstrate site and service problem recognition and solving skill
