Freight Forwarder / Import Clerk
Ashford, Kent
£22,000 – £28,000pa + Benefits

KHR is currently working with an established Fresh Produce provider based in Ashford that, due to growth and current Brexit changes, are looking to recruit an experienced Freight Forwarder / Import Clerk.

If you have previous experience in freight forwarding or customs clearance with exposure to import/export then this may be the ideal role for you.

Operating from their site in Ashford, this role offers a competitive basic salary.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

– Completing day to day DEFRA (PEACH) entries for all air, sea and road freight shipments.
– Telephone and/or written communication with external organisations e.g. HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, Hauliers, Suppliers etc
– Obtain necessary Bill of Ladings and correct Tariff Headings
– Obtain payments from customers in line with company policy.
– Liaising with customers, partners, shipping lines and carriers
– Calculating Duty / VAT cost for each consignment
– Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures
– Planning and arranging deliveries
– Providing administration support to the logistics and commercial team
– Telephone queries, data input and general admin duties.

Essential Skills/Qualities Required:

– Previous experience within an Import Forwarding role, preferably including Customs experience
– Knowledge of customs declarations ideally within a freight forwarding or logistics business
– Previous experience within an Import Forwarding role, preferably including Customs experience
– Confident in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
– Ability to work under pressure
– Excellent attention to detail
– Exemplary customer service skills with the ability to work flexible hours when require
– Ability to learn and understand existing procedures
– The ability to work independently as well as within a team
– Able to work to deadlines and meet targets
– Driven and self-motivated
