We are currently working with a leading UK distribution company that serves the Print Media sector, Parcel, Travel & Tourism, eCommerce and High Street Retail sectors.

Due to ongoing growth, they are currently seeking an experienced Nationwide SHE (Safety, Healthy & Environment) Manager to join their business.

The SHE Manager will be responsible for the management of a proactive Health & Safety team, providing key support service to the business by ensuring compliance with all relative UK and EU legislation, company policies, standards and guidelines. They will identify and mitigate risks, reduce injuries, accidents, insurance claims and absenteeism across the business.

Responsibilities will include:

*Responsibility for the efficient and professional management of the companies Health, Safety & Environmental management programmes.
*Provide independent advice on operational safety issues, to assist and advise senior and local management and other staff, in achieving continuous improvements in health and safety performance.
*Work in close liaison with the management team to maintain effective health and safety procedures across all business activities.
*Ensure all business units remain fully compliant with all relevant industry, regulatory and state legislated health and safety requirements and internal health & safety standards.
*Provide proactive support to operational management to ensure all business activities operate within the risk management framework.
*Continually improve the process of hazard identification, risk assessment and compliance with the implementation of risk mitigation measures and controls.
*Work in collaboration to develop policies that support the field operation, introduce safe working procedures and facilitate management coaching and training to further enhance operational management knowledge and awareness of applicable H&S legislation.
*Actively promote a fair reporting culture at all levels of the business.
*Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported in a timely manner, fully investigated and root cause analysis undertaken and appropriate and effective preventative or corrective measure put in place to prevent reoccurrence, further ensure and that all corrective measures are fully implemented and resilience tested.
*Facilitate and take a lead role in the monthly management Incident Review Boards (IRB).
*Ensure business unit Health & Safety Committee meetings are facilitate in line with policy, review meeting minutes and follow up to ensure agreed actions are fully implemented at each site.
*Monitor closely the delivery and effectiveness of employee Health & Safety briefings and ensure that there is a formal record of briefings is maintained for audit purposes.
*Responsible for the design and delivery of corporate health, safety training programs.
*Promote through various media a safety first culture through all levels of the organisation.
*Achieve an incremental reduction in personal injury, vehicle and property damage rates across the business.
*Responsible for planning and participation in compliance Health & Safety audits.
*Develop open lines of communication and relationships with customers, regulators and other authorities or industry forums in relation to Health & Safety.
*Ability to resolve issues, undertake cause and effect assessments and put in place safe systems of work using robust risk management techniques.
*Publish periodic safety awareness bulletins, alerts and guidance information.
*Investigate complaints or concerns in regard to Health & Safety including those raised through the Whistle Blower programme.
*Analyse accident and incident trends, also provide timely management reports as required.
*Support operations with due diligence assessments and new business planning and integration of Health & Safety policies and process.
*Respond and deploy to sites as lead investigator for serious or major incident and accidents and provide emergency support as maybe required.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

*A recognised NEBOSH/NVQ5 or equivalent Diploma in Safety Management, and should be a member of a recognised safety organisation, eg. IOSH or equivalent.
*Possess a recognised Environmental management qualification.
*A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management role, preferably within the transport and logistics industry.
*Strong organisational, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills required.
*Ability to inspire trust and confidence with both internal stakeholders and external service providers at all levels as well as working cross-functionally with senior management within the organisation.
*Strong leadership, communication and positive interpersonal skills to build organisation and industry relationships and credibility.
*This position will involve occasional out of hours working (nights or weekends) and time away from home with visits to sites throughout the UK and Ireland as part of the normal duties, so flexibility to travel on a regular basis is essential.
