Spotting a CV written using AI can be a bit challenging, but there are some tell-tale signs that can help you identify one.
As part of our Knowledge is Power Posts we have put together a useful short guide to help you spot an AI-generated CV –
Overly generic language: AI-generated CVs often use generic language and buzzwords. They may lack the personal touch and specific details that a human would include about their experiences, skills, and accomplishments.
Inconsistent formatting: AI may not always format a CV consistently. You might notice strange font changes, spacing issues, or unusual section headings that a human wouldn’t typically use.
Unusual phrasing: AI-generated CVs might use awkward or unusual phrasing. They may also overuse certain phrases or keywords that the AI was programmed to include.
Excessive detail: AI-generated CVs may include excessive details that a human might not normally include, as the AI tries to pad the content. This can make the CV seem cluttered and less focused.
Lack of personal touch: Personal stories, anecdotes, or explanations of why the individual is interested in the specific job or company may be missing. Human CVs often include these elements to demonstrate a genuine interest in the position.
Inconsistencies or errors: AI may generate CVs with inconsistencies or errors that a human would likely catch and correct. This could be in terms of dates, job titles, or other factual information.
Irrelevant information: AI-generated CVs might include irrelevant information that doesn’t align with the job being applied for. This can make the CV appear less tailored to the specific position.
Lack of realistic gaps: AI-generated CVs may not include realistic career gaps or explanations for employment transitions, which humans often provide.
Strange file names or metadata: If you have access to the CV file itself, you might find that AI-generated CVs have unusual file names or metadata that could indicate their origin.
It’s important to note that AI-generated CVs are becoming more sophisticated, and some may be challenging to spot. However, an experienced human recruiter can often discern between a CV created by AI and one crafted by a real person.
